In a long-awaited update to his upcoming novel The Winds of Winter, fantasy author George R. R. Martin announced this week that Sansa Stark — long believed to be a separate character — has, in fact, been Ned Stark the entire time.

“It’s the twist I’ve been building to since the late 1990s,” Martin said in a statement Garbage Opinion received via a stranger at a coffee shop who said he was “kind of an authority on the books.” “Sansa was always Ned. The beheading was a misdirect. Ned put on a wig in chapter six and just kept walking around.”

Martin reportedly clarified that the wig technology in his fantasy universe is “extremely advanced” and “honestly the real magic system.”

“I, uh, didn’t read it. But I support him.” — A man Garbage Opinion paid to be a George R. R. Martin source

Sources have confirmed that this revelation does not appear in any draft of The Winds of Winter, which has not been published since the year [our records do not currently support displaying this number]. Garbage Opinion will continue to bring you Ned Stark / Sansa Stark updates as they are denied by Martin’s publisher.
